ListServ Tips

Lebwa Electronic Discussion Listserv Tips:

lebwa.org ListServ can be used to seek advice on women's issues, announce events, get social assistance, share resources, initiate projects, and discuss views relevant to Lebanese women's lives in Lebanon and the US in particular, and elsewhere in general.

We suggest you spend the first day or 2 reading messages to get a feel for the mood of the list and then send a message introducing yourself to the group.
Your introduction to the list is an essential pre-condition to joining the list.
Contrary to other listservs, this list does not encourage anonymous nor silent members but tends to generate a congenial, informative atmosphere.

Guidelines and tips for making lebwa e-list more productive and enjoyable:
1. How to send email to the list:
Send your message to lebwa@yahoogroups.com, it will go to everyone on the list.

2. Responding to one person only: Reply All sends your email back to the whole list, reply only sends it back to the sender only and will not be seen by the whole list. Please differentiate between public and private messages. The list is a public space.

3. Make the subject lines specific and descriptive. when you hit reply, change the subject line and write a new title for your message to describe what your message is about. "OT," means off topic (We consider our topics to be related to women of Lebanon).

4. Remember that you are interacting with people. Consider yourself to be having a conversation in a crowded room or to a friendly audience!

5. Edit the original message in your replies. Re-send a few summarizing lines of the original message so that the reader will know immediately what item you are addressing.

6. Summarize your responses in one email, instead of replying to every single email, subdivide your answers by title or by addressing the person by name. Please do not flood inboxes with short silly remarks or unecessary jokes.

7. Do not send attachments to your messages and do not forward messages, always cut and paste into a new message (Messages are saved in archives under www.yahoogroups.com that you can visit, attachments spread viruses and forwarded messages are hard to read and invade privacy of your other friends).

8. Remember that e-mail lists are only as good as the subscribers make them. Lists work best when each person on the list engages in the discussion. We encourage people to be active participants and not silent readers.

9. Smile! We are building a strong and well-connected community with this list. Before you send the message you should ask yourself if it is relevant to the group.

10. If, for any reason, you decide to unsubscribe from the Lebwa e-list, please send an email first to the moderator of the list.
