Discussions on Lebwa are for those interested in
Lebanese/Lebanese American women's issues and feminism. This forum
is not exclusive to Lebanese/Lebanese American women; men and women from Lebanese
descent or non-Lebanese are welcome to join as long as the discussion is focused on women with ties to Lebanon.
General topics to be discussed relate to women's rights, reproductive rights, gender roles,
education, career opportunities, discrimination, homosexuality, women's health and feminism.
The purpose of these discussions is to shed light on areas of
conflicts, share experiences, learn and get support, and ultimately
organize conferences, activities and actions that will help empower
women.
As a group, Lebanese women include a variety of women from different
socio-cultural, educational and political backgrounds. In spite
of their differences, these women can meet on common grounds. The group
includes people who live or have lived in Lebanon or people who are of Lebanese descent, as
well as friends or spouses of Lebanese and feel they belong to the Lebanese diaspora.
Lebwa encompasses an open minded, pluralistic, modern, progressive group of forwardly-looking people. Fanatic, religious and conservative ideas and beliefs are NOT welcome on the lebwa forum. We try to be avant-garde and create a positive atmosphere. We reject traditional ways of thinking, and are critical of sectarian/partisan/patriarchal systems.
Racism and homophobia are not tolerated.
